Reason: While you can't really say that Ookurikara has a strong belief in anything in particular (unless your name is Date Masamune, in which case he will walk through hell for you), Ookurikara does believe in is own strength on the battlefield. He is a sword and feels most comfortable on the battlefield, where he can do what he does best without having to address any complicated feelings. He gets excited at the prospect of a particularly strong enemy, and if given the choice between a peaceful mission and one involving battle, he will almost always choose the latter.
Role: Offensive. While he does have good defensive skills, he's most comfortable on the front lines, where he can meet an enemy head on and fight on his own terms.

Name: Ookurikara
Canon: Touken Ranbu
Canon Point: Post-Mihotose no Komoriuta
Age: about 925 years old, but he appears around 17/18
History:
Ookurikara is most famously known as one of the swords wielded by Date Masamune, given to the Date family by the Tokugawa and passed down through generations, before finally being put away in storage as a work of art. In the year 2205, the spirit of that sword is summoned the saniwa and given a human form to wield his own blade against the History Retrograde Army (often referred to as Revisionists). Their goal is to alter history how they see fit by attacking important people and places in history, while the saniwa’s is to keep history as it should be, with the help of Ookurikara and the other sword warriors.Personality:
The first mission we see him take is a resource-gathering expedition alongside Nikkari Aoe in the year 1543, but it all goes awry when they find themselves under attack and unable to return to the citadel or even contact their saniwa as the Revisionists obliterate the Matsudaira clan in an attempt to change history. Amidst the chaos, a stranger entrusts Nikkari with an infant child, leaving Ookurikara to handle most of the fighting. They are on the edge of being overwhelmed when a team arrives just in time to help them, and one of the new arrivals, Monoyoshi, reveals that the baby is his former master, Tokugaway Ieyasu. With his family and their retainers killed, the leader of this impromptu mission, Ishikirimaru, decides to take up the name of one of these fallen retainers and raise Ieyasu himself to maintain the flow of history. Most of the team agrees, but Ookurikara refuses, opting instead to keep an eye out for more Revisionists so that he may keep a certain distance from the rest and focus on fighting.
Things remain this way for years as Ieyasu grows up, with the other swords in the team taking up the names of other famous retainers. It isn't until the Battle of Okehazama that things begin to change for Ookurikara. Here, he joins the soldiers in the fight against Oda Nobunaga's troops, meeting a young man named Gohei who immediately looks up to him and leaving an impression on Ieyasu himself, now an adult and commander in his own right, who praises Ookurikara's swordsmanship and prowess on the battlefield. Ishikirimaru takes the opportunity to introduce him as Sakakibara Yasumasa, the son of one of a loyal retainer to Ieyasu's father. Without any hesitation, Ieyasu asks him to serve him as a military commander, to which Ookurikara feels he has no choice but to agree.
Years pass, and Ookurikara serves loyally. As Ieyasu's Nobuyasu grows older, he is tasked with teaching the boy swordsmanship, and takes to the lessons reluctantly but with no less dedication. Nobuyasu learns well but does give him trouble by trying to skip lessons - and all the while, Gohei is still following him around like a lost puppy and begging to be taught how to fight. Every time, Ookurikara refuses. That is, until the day that Nobuyasu witnesses this exchange himself, and after learning of Gohei's motivations - motivations that give even Ookurikara pause - Nobuyasu requests that Gohei be taught alongside him. As the boy is technically one of his masters as well as a child at the time, Ookurikara immediately relents.
As more time passes, Gohei becomes a trusted retainer of both Ieyasu and Nobuyasu. He and Ookurikara both accompany them in battle against the Takeda clan, but things get out of hand when the Revisionists attack, once again targeting Ieyasu. Ookurikara and Gohei go with Ieyasu and Nobuyasu to serve as protection. The problem is that a human form grows tired after a long time spent in battle, and just when Ookurikara stops to catch his breath, a Revisionist he'd missed attacks before he can stop them. Gohei takes a hit meant for Ieyasu and dies shortly after Ookurikara kills the attacker, leaving even Ookurikara feeling devastated.
Not long after, the day of Nobuyasu's death arrives, and while he expresses discontent with the matter, Ookurikara acknowledges that their mission is to protect history and follows Ishikirimaru to see it through. The (failed) attempt to kill Nobuyasu is interrupted by a new enemy, however - a Kebiishi, one whose intent is to remove anything that doesn't belong in the flow of time, including the sword spirits themselves. They struggle to defeat it until Nobuyasu himself intervenes and dies to protect his friends (and, he doesn't yet realize, history itself).
Years later, they reach the point in time at which Sakakibara Yasumasa is meant to die. Ookurikara plays his part through and heads back to the citadel, only to return to the past to give a final goodbye when Ieyasu is on his death bed before going home for good.
Loner » Ookurikara is known as the most antisocial sword in the citadel. "I don't intend on getting friendly" is kind of a catchphrase for him, the default response to anyone who speaks to him. From the day he’s first summoned, he’s made it clear that he prefers to be alone, fight alone, and die alone, and makes no effort to be friendly or courteous to anyone else, even his current master. Ostensibly, he only tolerates others because he has to, and can come off as argumentative and grouchy in how he addresses others both on missions and off.Abilities:
Stubborn » Once he's made up his mind, it can be extremely difficult to change his opinion. He digs in his heels, sometimes going so far as to outright refuse to acknowledge a different opinion or and often won't bother to try to understand it. If he's decided he doesn't like someone or something, it takes a great effort to change that, and he'll fight it every step of the way.
Awkward » Honestly though, while he does prefer to be left alone, he doesn't really mind the company of others - he just doesn't know how to deal with them. He can hold a conversation if he has to, but most of the time, it makes him uncomfortable to try, because it doesn't come nearly as easily as his swordsmanship. Even with the few people that he truly likes, Ookurikara is rather reluctant and standoffish, but he doesn't actively hate (most) people or wish any harm on them.
Reserved » Given the above, Ookurikara is content to remain in the background and stay quiet when it comes to everyday affairs. It's not that he won't ever reach out - he certainly will, but he's more like to leave most people to their own devices. He's happy enough to help out here or there, to help cook or sit quietly nearby.
Good-hearted » But even Ookurikara can be friendly sometimes! It's a rare thing, and he'll never be as open about it as others would be, but there are people that he likes, and his sort of friendliness manifests as slightly less resistance to their shenanigans before giving way to indulgence. Though he doesn't show it well, he's actually very fond of those who manage to worm their way into his heart. This is usually limited to those he's decided he likes, but children (tantou or human) seem to qualify - or, at least, he doesn’t like being as rude to them as he can be to other adult-shaped humans or swords. Funnily enough, he has a big weakness for cute things, which may explain why he doesn't resist kids quite so much, and also why he's a sucker for animals and even little things like a cute rubber ducky.
Distant » He keeps everyone at arm's length, even those that he likes. The thing is, he does it because he likes them, but with that comes a certain fear that Ookurikara can never seem to shake. By not getting close to anyone, he believes he won't feel as hurt if he someday fails to protect them from being hurt or killed, or if they simply leave him behind, as when his fellow Date clan swords were taken away. It usually doesn't quite work out as well as he hopes, but Ookurikara refuses to put much thought into the matter, and would rather lie to himself to protect his own heart.
Hardworking » A more positive spin to his stubbornness, he throws himself wholeheartedly into the task ahead of him. Even if he'd resisted being roped in to start with, he doesn't tolerate laziness in himself or in others, and will always do the best job he can no matter what's being asked of him and expects the same of others. On the battlefield, he's ruthless to his enemies, and strives to fulfill the objective almost single-mindedly. Off the battlefield, he still regards at these things as if they are a sort of battlefield, the comparison making it easier for him to conquer the task at hand.
Straightforward » In anything that doesn't have to do with addressing his own emotions, Ookurikara is remarkably straightforward. He doesn't see much use for lying unless it will benefit the mission (see: concealing his identity as a sword spirit, or even manipulating fellow swords into working harder at their chores), and as such he usually doesn't bother. He tries to be direct both on and off the battlefield, the easier to minimize uncomfortable interactions and focus on whatever is ahead of them.
Combat » He's naturally a gifted swordsman, one of the stronger swords of his class, but Ookurikara is by no means the strongest in the citadel. Though far from agile, he makes up for it in strong offensive and defensive skills, as well as his ability to read the flow of battle and adjust on the fly to cover both himself and his comrades.Inventory: Just his sword, Ookurikara.
Two forms » His true self is the sword he wields. Any damage to his sword reflects on his human form, and in order to heal, his sword must first be repaired. If his sword is damaged to the point of breaking, Ookurikara's human form will die. That said, his human form is still subject to human needs - eating, drinking, etc.
Resilience » As a sword spirit, Ookurikara has more stamina and endurance than the average human. He's also a bit stronger, though he will falter the more damage his sword takes until it can be repaired.
