[ suddenly he looks kind of frustrated, and a little hesitant. ]
They want me to find four people, from different elements, that I can trust. If I can do that, I should be able to stay awake again - and we'll have a better chance of learning these things.
[ probably?? this is what shess kept badgering him about right ]
[she started off so confidently but now she’s pausing as she realizes she doesn’t remember all the elements from trial or people from Earth or Air that she likes,,]
Kaoru, [ he agrees with a nod. ] He's the only one who knows my own ability.
[ he doesn't know much about miki, so. yeah. kaoru. ]
...Akane was air, right? I know we have to be careful with her, but... when she talked to me before, it sounded like she wanted someone who understood her, or something.
[ he's not good with words and has no idea how to explain it. but she seemed to be at ease with him, which is... odd, all things considered. he didn't make it easy for her.
as for earth? he shakes his head. ]
I don't know many of the ones with earth powers. the only one I spoke to, besides Hisoka, was... [ uh. who was it. ] ...the red one. They lost their leg last week, in one of the traps.
... at the very least, if it’s between someone that I can still get to know and someone who will sacrifice innocent people - I’d pick the former. But maybe if you can get along with Akane, you can get her to stop being stupid.
[she’s not... all bad.... lili didn’t mind her before - she just can’t forgive her for what she said either]
Yes... Something like that.
[though at the mention of trust, lili pauses. it’s getting harder for her to trust anyone, all things considered]
... I don’t think they would harm anyone, or lie to cover up a crime.
She only listens to me about cooking. That's all. Julius - I don't know if he's trustworthy at all, either.
[ and so many people are proving not to be, the longer this goes on. ]
Good enough.
[ he'll keep an eye out for them, and try to speak to them more often. even if it seems that neither of them are all that comfortable with talking to others.
unrelated to his new task, though, he has another question for lili - especially now, after the trial, and seeing where others stand on the matter. kara hesitates to ask, unsure of whether he really wants to know the answer. ]
He said... he wanted to be my friend. Akane said the same thing.
[she speaks a little softer now, losing some of her usual confidence. she knows what she wants when it comes to honesty, rebellion, and morality. but she struggles when it comes to interpersonal relationships like this. she fusses with her hair, tucking some of it behind her ear]
But how can I be friends with someone who would act like that? And put innocent people in danger?
[but she wants to - is the problem]
What was even the point when we knew there was a way to save her....?!
He came to me, after the trial. Said Mary was afraid she'd done something, that she had a new wound she didn't remember getting.
The whole time, he said nothing. Just like today.
[ he doesn't bother trying to hide the anger, the bitterness, that comes with knowing this, and the fact that some of the people kara trusts most in this village value that man so much. ]
He's helped in some of the trials. But I don't trust him, if he'll go this far to hide someone.
I’m not going to forgive him, and he has to understand that if he keeps doing this then he’s just going to get in the way.
[but - ]
... I just can’t imagine how someone would put so many in danger for no reason like that. How can he condemn Shirasu but be just as guilty himself? I don’t understand...
He said he was looking for a different solution - a way to save Mary without hurting her. Although that didn't stop him from trying to hide the one from today.
[ he crosses his arms, watching the chickens wander for a second before continuing. ]
I told Shess I won't stand aside if he does it again. Hiding the corrupted does nothing but prolong the danger for all of us, and give the corruption time to fester. Whatever he was trying to accomplish, I don't intend to let him stand in the way of getting rid of the darkness we're supposed to be defeating.
So he would’ve accepted sacrificing someone else innocent instead? It wasn’t Mary’s fault - but leaving her in that state instead, not letting anyone else know....
[ . . . ]
I know how you feel - but don’t put Saix or whoever his partner is in danger just because Lea is a fool, if there’s another way that we can manage to fix it.
[it always comes down to endangering an innocent life for lili, too]
I'm the reason he even has a partner now. If they'd let me kill the one with the white hair, I could've dealt with both of them at once and left the remaining two partnered, but of course they wouldn't allow it.
no subject
I can’t promise that being all of them but... at least if we expand the people who’ll tell us things, we’ll be more effective?
no subject

Myself or Shess.
Kaoru or Miki.
[she started off so confidently but now she’s pausing as she realizes she doesn’t remember all the elements from trial or people from Earth or Air that she likes,,]
... um....

I don’t care to understand someone who would sacrifice innocent people and give up just because they might lose one person.
[that’s. that’s her take on it]
If you want to trust her, that’s fine, but I hate people like that.
[lili is so bad with people sometimes,,]
... Ah - Cinnabar? They’re kinder than they look... They’re good to animals.
no subject
[ how are almost all the airs dead already ]
...They helped me get Milla home, last week.
[ ... ]
Though they said they were cursed at the time, too.
[ he wants to stab lune in the face so bad right now ]
no subject
[why wasn’t she paying more attention, rip]
Mm, even if they’re not cursed... I don’t think that they’d leave someone behind if they could help them.
They sacrificed their arm to help me once....
no subject
[ and also... who is julius.
kara has to take a moment to marvel at that, though. ]
They break so easily... I don't understand how they're still alive.
[ it kind of blows his mind?? if his sword so much as cracks, he'll be at death's door. ]
no subject
[she mimes glasses on her own face to try to explain,,]
Mm... They’re made different from all of us, I think. They’re a gem? Whereas at least you have a human form now.
no subject
I don't know him well, either. He... has an odd way of fighting.
[ that and the glasses are all kara knows about him haha ]
A gem? Like a rock?
[ weird ]
...Do you trust them?
no subject
[she’s not... all bad.... lili didn’t mind her before - she just can’t forgive her for what she said either]
Yes... Something like that.

...What do you think of Axel?
[ does she trust that one, too? ]
no subject
He said... he wanted to be my friend. Akane said the same thing.

no subject
[ kara will offer no further details unless she asks. ]
I just hope saving her doesn't go to waste, like the last one did.
no subject
He has...?
[she frowns at kara’s words also though]
... don’t call it a waste. Saving someone’s life, even if it doesn’t last as long as we wanted it to, isn’t a waste.
no subject
[ but he doesn't know how to explain anyway, so. with a sigh, he moves on, speaking with a barely restrained thread of anger in his voice. ]
Mary. He knew it was her, after we woke up, and he tried to hide it then, too.
no subject
but then he keeps speaking and. she’s distracted. her remaining eye widens]
... After we woke up?
He - what...?
[he was going to let someone innocent pay for her crime and let her keep being corrupted?]
no subject
The whole time, he said nothing. Just like today.
[ he doesn't bother trying to hide the anger, the bitterness, that comes with knowing this, and the fact that some of the people kara trusts most in this village value that man so much. ]
He's helped in some of the trials. But I don't trust him, if he'll go this far to hide someone.

I’m going to ask him why.
[she decided this, just now.]
I’m not going to forgive him, and he has to understand that if he keeps doing this then he’s just going to get in the way.
[but - ]
... I just can’t imagine how someone would put so many in danger for no reason like that. How can he condemn Shirasu but be just as guilty himself? I don’t understand...

[ HE'S BITTER. ]
no subject
[she’ll pause their conversation so that she can wander over to where kazakiri is roosting and
hold her out to him to hold
she can FEEL the tension coming off of you, kara]
no subject
but this is ookurikara so of course eventually he does, expression mellowing into a frown as he pets her
soft ]
no subject
and she pats his forearm]
... I would’ve let you.
[LIKE LITERALLY NO ONE ELSE WOULD’VE AGREED WITH KARA’S PLAN UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE OF TRIAL BUT
SHE WOULD’VE]
But... thank you, at least, for not making yourself the enemy of a lot of people here.
