[ ookurikara is walking through town, holding a chicken. because as much as he enjoys torimaru's company, he (she?) should probably go back to the chicken coop. it's just a normal day.
then he spots lili, and frowns.
y o u .
he doesn't actually want to talk to her, but he'll just. be here, watching her like he half expects her to attack.
[ suddenly ookurikara regrets following her, and it shows when his face settles into a frown. the drinks tsuru had given him meant he was actually in an okay mood for once, but he doesn't want talk about this again. not with lili. ]
of course, she knows that probably doesn't compare even a little bit to what tsurumaru's comrade must be feeling. she doesn't know what she can do... but she also knows that it's not in her nature to just sit around. as such, she'll go to find him and once he pauses in whatever he's doing in the armory, she'll speak up]
There are animals in the west. I'm going to investigate.
[ talking to lune has gotten him nowhere. searching for tsurumaru's sword has gotten him nowhere. there's no trace of him, except what can be found in the main hall, but ookurikara refuses to believe he's gone until he sees the sword, broken, with his own eyes.
tomorrow, lune had said. if he doesn't get answers tomorrow, he won't hold back again. this he thinks as he goes through drills in the training hall, trying to release some of the restless energy within him. sparks fly here and there as the blade whistles through the air, and he doesn't try to stop them. this is an anger he's fully embraced.
when someone else appears, he pauses, but doesn't turn to face them. when it's lili's voice that speaks up, he finds himself a little surprised, and a little irritated that she seems to think ookurikara would care where she goes. but then she asks if he's coming, too, and it suddenly makes sense. she... didn't seem to dislike tsuru, after all.
eventually, he'll slowly sheath his sword and turn to head for the exit. ]
[ after venturing into the village to find what he needs, ookurikara finally heads back to the armory to collect tsurumaru with a small, unmarked box in hand, clinking softly with each step. when he sees lili there, he pauses for only a moment before continuing to his usual place to set the box down and open it. ]
Do you still want to come?
[ he doesn't look up at lili, or even clarify what he means as he carefully lays out a white shawl, setting tsuru's shards, the steel as bright now as it had been before, on top of it as if piecing the sword back together. ]
[it's been long enough now that lili doesn't think that she needs supervision in order to practice using knives - she remembers how yona used to do this with a wooden sword, practicing in the evening no matter what she was doing, even if the hot springs were waiting for her. lili is doing much of the same, but she'll pause when ookurikara speaks to her
tossing her hair back over her shoulder, she glances to him and then looks down at what he's doing - ]
... ah.
Yes. I can take a break for that.
[it's probably for the best because she hasn't been sleeping well regardless, and she'll move to put the knife away, wiping gently at the darker spots underneath her eyes with her free hand as she does]
lili wakes up as soon as she suffers from the dream - but instead of rushing to the main hall, she could only curl up in bed and take a second, trying not to cry too loudly or else risk alarming kaoru. she doesn't bother running to check for a coffin today - even if she can't say why that is. perhaps the fear gets the better of her today, and she isn't sure how well she'd be able to cope with the truth of her nightmare realized.
so instead she heads for the armory, ao perched on her shoulder, trying to offer her an acorn in these trying times. she clearly still looks awful, eyes rimmed red. her hands are placed on her cheeks, fingers cool and icy to try to make the redness around her cheeks disappear so she looks awful.
though sleepy, lost in thought, and teary-eyed as she is,
she might not notice whoever might already be in the armory, or where they are, especially if they may be - well, on the ground.
[ part of the problem with the bodies they'd been given is that the hearts that come with them want to dwell on emotion, even when it gets in the way. so after sending off the tower, ookurikara has thrown himself into training so he wouldn't have to think about it, but it's left him exhausted. it's another con of having a human body, and sometimes it makes kara wish he was still just a sword.
usually, he'll park himself somewhere out of the way for the night, in a corner of the armory where he's less likely to be bothered. on wednesday night, he's tired enough from trying to master his magic that he doesn't get that far, simply leaning against the wall, sliding to floor, and falling asleep before he can think about how inconvenient this particular spot may be.
most days, kara rises with the sun and has breakfast ready by the time everyone else is up - a holdover of helping mitsutada in the citadel. by thursday morning, he's sprawled on his side with his sword held loosely in one hand, still sound asleep.
until someone trips over him, anyway. then his eyes will open into a sleepy glare. what the fuck. ]
[ ookurikara hadn't necessarily liked the girl they'd found guilty. most of the time they'd interacted, it was her bugging him about food, for some reason or another. frankly, now that one of the corrupted has been found, he's a little more concerned with the ones they didn't find, as well as looking for... whoever it is lune has been hinting at.
he doesn't really have anywhere to begin on either yet. so after futaba has been taken away, he retreats to the kitchen, apparently cooking dinner? you'd think they didn't just choose to send another girl to her death. ]
[the war is over, but dinner still needs to be served.
unfortunately, lili is too damn weak to be able to actually force her body to stay awake after she's lost an eye, so kara will actually be without an assistant during tuesday's dinner. however! she is able to wake up in time for breakfast on wednesday, even though she wasn't quite able to make it to sparring. there's a frown on her face about that, if only because right now she thinks she'll need the practice more than ever.
that's all she's thinking about - not the fact that her head is half covered in bandages, that she's suffered an eye injury, that others might be worried about her - when she tries to make it to the kitchen.
her shoulder bumps into the doorway because her depth perception is a little fucked and she has to pause - ]
[ dinner on tuesday night probably had to be pretty simple, to be honest. even kara's having some issues with cooking right now, but he's better on wednesday morning, at any rate, he's been bandaged up so he's taking his time with breakfast, trying not to move too much or too fast to rip the wounds back open.
so he's slow to turn when he hears lili, and almost pays her no attention at all - but then he does a double-take, and stops to stare at her with the carton of eggs in hand. ]
[ it's... been a weird few days. learning that he can't repair himself like usual was bad enough, but milla's... everything (is she okay?) and lili suddenly being so standoffish have thrown him for a loop. normally he wouldn't mind being left alone, but she'd never been quite so... short with him, after that first time they'd talked about magic.
it's strange. but he isn't going to ask about that after waking up to more victims. in fact, he doesn't even approach her, outside of their usual routine, until after dinner has been prepared, when the bandages need to be replaced.
comfort will never be his forte, though. he knows that lili liked the bird - or at least, he's seen the bird clinging to her - so he won't ask if she's alright. so as they prepare to change the bandages, kara will simply say: ]
We'll find them this time.
[ he probably shouldn't be making such promises, after last week... but he intends to try, at least. ]
[lili was quiet again today - though for different reasons, certainly. the day before had been some combination of irritation and disappointment plaguing her, but it's simple to say that today she's simply mourning in her own way. she's both furious and disheartened - it had just been last week that kazuaki had followed after her to give her comfort even after she was so angry....
her hands pause at kara's words as she's in the middle of pulling back her hair, and she glances over to him]
... mm. We still have to find who hurt Junna, too. There's plenty to do.
[she sounds tired - though there's at least her usual purposeful, steely anger that lurks beneath her words]
[ now that he's (finally) escaped milla, kara's trying to relax in the armory and figure out what the fuck just happened. why did it have to be the horse? also, is milla okay? is she going to be stuck like that from now on? (why is she so intent on clinging to him?)
he doesn't have answers for any of that, so he just focuses on cleaning his sword until he hears someone enter.
- lili. he doesn't look that happy to see her, though. in fact, he's kind of scowling? ]
[she's already bringing in fresh bandages and a bowl of water, and she'll just frown back]
I can't think of many poisons that act so quickly that I wouldn't be able to get a word in with Sol about a task to find an antidote. He's soft-hearted, and his tasks are rather stupid anyway.
We were running out of time before we could turn in all our votes, so I wanted the immediate answer first.
[so it's not like she was without a back-up plan, even if it was admittedly a very reckless back-up plan]
[ now that they're back, kara kind of just wants to rest because today has been on of the single most confusing days of his life - right up there with milla kissing him out of nowhere. the robot he fought is safely parked in the middle of the village where everyone can see (he still has no clue what it is, but it's fine), so he's going to the kitchen to find a quick, simple dinner before heading to the armory.
when he spots lili, though, he pauses. kara was going to wait until morning to talk to her, but now's as good a time as any, he supposes. ]
[to be fair, as soon as she heard all the fuss and the nonsense, she immediately darted outside. she was running out of ideas since both kara and shess were gone?? when she sees him, she looks relieved -
and then fussy all over again]
Me first!
Where have you been? Have you eaten? Would you even tell me if you got injured again?
[ once those found dead have been announced, ookurikara makes his way to the kitchen, as promised. notably, there's a second sword next to his own. he... doesn't look very happy. but he's here.
when he sees lili, he leans against the counter, crossing his arms. ]
[lili makes her way to the kitchen as soon as she can but - she's rather clearly full of nervous energy. there's a certain anxiousness that dwells in her chest]
[ once he's done with lune (haha), kara goes looking for lili - maybe she's still with the chickens? who knows. but once he sees her, with no other greeting he says: ]
Lune said they couldn't give us an item to partner more than two. The universe has to give it to us, like the ones that cure corruption.
[sheโs probably still with the chickens, finishing up giving them feed for the night]
.... then we have to see if thereโs a way to get picked to go on those missions...? Or see what other items people get from them to make sure theyโre used?
Lili is laughing a bit as they exit the date spot, always pleased with a fine escape, and eventually their travels will lead them in the direction of the castle. she looks at it in the distance, grand and spacious - and then seems to remember something, pulling the charm (Oracle Bell) that they were given out of her pocket.
modern clothes. pockets. brilliant.]
Oh - I think Tsurumaru contacted me also. He's mad you're ignoring him.
[lili makes a mental note to never ask anyone on a date ever again - because she was nowhere near mentally prepared for this. she looked through the gateway a bit earlier in the day, and immediately wanted the ground to open up and swallow her whole once she realized it was a festival of sorts.
but they made an agreement? and he brought it up himself? so with the gentle nudge to maybe try out some of the other clothes that kaoru suggested to him, she agrees to meet him at the gateway later.
and now it's later - and did she put in just a little more effort into finding cute clothes? maybe? if she did then she'll definitely never to tell? it's fine. she's still fussing with her hair while she waits - and tries to aggressively remind herself that it's just another date, it's fine,,
it's whatever! but she also mumbles to herself - ]
[ kara gets the feeling that the universe is listening in on all of their conversations and crafted this gateway out of spite for him, specifically. he really hadn't been expecting another festival, but now that it's here, he intends to keep his word.
he almost regrets bringing the it up when lili suggests trying some of his other (unnecessary) clothes, but she and kaoru had both said it would be good to have them in case of something like this, so he might as well. kara spends some time staring at the clothes they'd given him, as if the garments would somehow choose his outfit for him. when they don't, he decides to try to find something mitsutada would approve of, which is how he ends up back in those impractical form-fitting pants and a nice black button-down shirt, though he might've ruined the illusion by rolling the sleeves up. he's even dug out out a belt to tie his sword to, so he doesn't have to carry it himself throughout their date.
then he heads for the gateway, tilting his head when he catches the last bit of what she's saying. ]
[ookurikara was BANNED from the kitchen on thursday.
except it seems that once dinner is actually prepared and ready to be served, lili will peek her head out the kitchen door and look around for him. when she does manage to see him, she waves him down and there's no denying that the look in her eye is a little bit
[ kara can't help but wonder what she's so excited about, but he was content to leave lili to it without question until he sees her peering out of the kitchen. only then does he head over, but he doesn't cross the threshold just yet. ]
[ after the fuss ends, there's only so much kara can do once the fuss ends to avoid talking to lili alone... though honestly, he doesn't really want to avoid her at all? but he hesitates nonetheless, because even after talking to kaoru and figuring out what he needs to say, he still hasn't figured out how to say it.
emotions. they're still the worst. ]
Lili - before you go, I... want to talk to you.
[ he did say "the next time we meet," after all. he just didn't expect it to be so soon, or like this. ]
[ . . . for some reason she doesnโt like the way that he says that. it makes her pause because she did get his tweet yesterday, and she figures that he probably has an answer but.]
Youโre already talking to me.
[theyโve been talking since she arrived? but she falters]
But I have something to say too... Iโm not mad - over the Milla thing.
Everyone was making a big deal of it over there so you mightโve gotten bothered over it... but itโs - fine.
[she has to force out the last word but itโs totally fine]

week 3, saturday
Lune said they couldn't give us an item to partner more than two. The universe has to give it to us, like the ones that cure corruption.
no subject
.... then we have to see if thereโs a way to get picked to go on those missions...? Or see what other items people get from them to make sure theyโre used?
[look lili is going to
break every single rule she can find if she can]

week 4, wednesday
Lili is laughing a bit as they exit the date spot, always pleased with a fine escape, and eventually their travels will lead them in the direction of the castle. she looks at it in the distance, grand and spacious - and then seems to remember something, pulling the charm (Oracle Bell) that they were given out of her pocket.
modern clothes. pockets. brilliant.]
Oh - I think Tsurumaru contacted me also. He's mad you're ignoring him.
[she sounds
also exasperated and oddly fond]
At least he's still himself.
no subject
I can't even tell what he was trying to say.

week 5, monday
but they made an agreement? and he brought it up himself? so with the gentle nudge to maybe try out some of the other clothes that kaoru suggested to him, she agrees to meet him at the gateway later.
and now it's later - and did she put in just a little more effort into finding cute clothes? maybe? if she did then she'll definitely never to tell? it's fine. she's still fussing with her hair while she waits - and tries to aggressively remind herself that it's just another date, it's fine,,
it's whatever! but she also mumbles to herself - ]
Kaoru is never going to let me live this down...
no subject
he almost regrets bringing the it up when lili suggests trying some of his other (unnecessary) clothes, but she and kaoru had both said it would be good to have them in case of something like this, so he might as well. kara spends some time staring at the clothes they'd given him, as if the garments would somehow choose his outfit for him. when they don't, he decides to try to find something mitsutada would approve of, which is how he ends up back in those impractical form-fitting pants and a nice black button-down shirt, though he might've ruined the illusion by rolling the sleeves up. he's even dug out out a belt to tie his sword to, so he doesn't have to carry it himself throughout their date.
then he heads for the gateway, tilting his head when he catches the last bit of what she's saying. ]
Live what down?

week 5, thursday

week 7, tuesday
emotions. they're still the worst. ]
Lili - before you go, I... want to talk to you.
[ he did say "the next time we meet," after all. he just didn't expect it to be so soon, or like this. ]
no subject
Youโre already talking to me.
[theyโve been talking since she arrived? but she falters]
But I have something to say too... Iโm not mad - over the Milla thing.
Everyone was making a big deal of it over there so you mightโve gotten bothered over it... but itโs - fine.
[she has to force out the last word but itโs totally fine]
