[ He pauses, clearly surprised. No one's even acknowledged powers, much less asked him about his. ]

[ Lili's feelings are an easier read, but it's clear that Ookurikara had his own connection with Tsurumaru. It's not hard to find him at the sports court again this week, though the atmosphere is very different.

Dimitri approaches slowly at first, as though considering whether to leave him be, before picking up his step and showing up near Kara's side. ]

Ookurikara. Do you mind if I join you?

[ there is no reply, as kara turns to face dimitri, eyes burning with anger as he considers the request. it's another moment before he takes a step back, bringing his sword up to a ready position as his answer. ]

[ He nods, understanding. Today, he's armed with a baseball bat—which is not ideal in the slightest, but this isn't really about practicing his form.

He holds it up as he might a sword, waiting a moment before striking forward. ]

w1, wednesday

[ Amidst all the flowers and all the lovely gazebos, there's... a lot of weeds. More than one person can deal with, which is probably by design. It's early when Dimitri sets out, so it makes sense to ask one of his roommates.

And so, here they are! It's nice and warm at least, with a little cloud cover. ]

I'm sorry to drag you out like this, Ookurikara. But I appreciate your company.

I don't mind.

[ these gardens are smaller than the citadel's, he thinks - and there isn't any produce at stake. it's all just flowers. kara isn't sure if that's better or worse. ]

I work in the fields a lot, back home. It's nothing I'm not used to.

[ If he expected anything from the way Kara holds a sword, it's that he's a warrior, not a laborer. But people could be surprising that way. Dimitri may be a noble, but he still drops to a knee in the dirt easily enough, gently pushing away some flowers to check the ground. ]

What is it you did, back home? I don't think I've ever asked.

week 1, sunday.

[ so they’ve lost a dragon, and failed to find justice for him. it’s a terrible result, but all it means is that they’ll have to try harder. so when kara finds dimitri, he wastes no time asking: ]

Do you have any suspicions for who might have been responsible?

[overruns]

[ dimitri has spent most of his day in the memorial hall now, whenever he isn't out trying to catch word of beau's condition. he's a little surprised to see kara there, but less so when he actually speaks.

he has to respect his drive, though he shakes his head. ]

Not a one. I voted for Escha, but I cannot say it was done in confidence.

[ he has to confess it, like a sin. ]

...I don't believe it was her. I think someone was trying to frame one of them, and for lack of any better evidence, we fell into their trap.

What's left now is for us to make it right.

week 3, wednesday

sometime on tuesday evening, kara makes it back to the cabin. he'll nod at dimitri in greeting. ]

Dimitri... There's something I wanted to talk to you about.

dimitri's eyes flick over instinctively, but he manages to stare at a wall as kara strides in, nodding back. as it turns out, it's really difficult to avoid eye contact for an entire week... ]

Certainly. I'm here to listen.

[ well, that's fine with kara. he doesn't particularly want to share memories, anyway. ]

The last two murders. Do you think there's a pattern to them?

w3 - sunday

[overruns]

[ The snow makes things quiet. It's peaceful, and even if it's cold, he wants to be out here, spear in hand and facing down a now-familiar adversary. ]

Sorry we couldn't get to this earlier, Ookurikara. I admit my mind has been occupied.

I get it. [ and for once, kara thinks he really does. ] Don't worry about it.

[ it's cold, but. now that he has a proper coat, kara doesn't mind the snow. even as he reaches for his sword, the expression on his face is somewhat fond as he watches the flakes continue to fall. ]

I'm here when you're ready.

[ at least the other camp jocks understand. he answers with a small, grateful bow, and leaves it at that as he charges forward, snow kicked up at kara as he swings his spear in a wide, downwards arch. ]

w4 saturday

[ it's hard to train as it is, but he does what he can, back to gently flipping his dagger in his hands within the confines of their cabin. Whenever his roommate gets back... ]

Ookurikara. May I speak with you?

[ ...ah. pausing, ookurikara thinks it's a good thing, that dimitri usually keeps a respectful distance, physically speaking. he doesn't like the swirl of mixed emotions he feels at seeing him, after trial. ]

What is it?

[ he doesn't like leaving these things in the air. if kara hates him, he hates him—if he doesn't, he doesn't. either way, it was best to say their piece.

he sighs, quietly. ]

[ once they've gotten lili patched up and in bed... dimitri pulls kara aside, outside where they won't bother her. it seems pointless to keep working at these tasks, but just in case they're necessary...

well, even if they aren't, he has something he wants to say. ]

I know you said you don't resent me, Ookurikara. But I wanted to apologize to you.

[ he follows, curious, but when dimitri speaks, kara frowns. ]

For Yasusada?

[ there's a pause. he nods, but... ]

[ how should he put this? ]

I don't think I made the wrong decision with Yasusada. He had to be stopped. [ he can't pass the responsibility onto someone else. he couldn't sit back and hope someone else would do the deed. ] But I wanted to apologize for failing to realize how you might feel about it. I know you are not a cold-hearted person... [ guarded, maybe, but not cold. not truly. ] And I feel that I have tread over your kindness. Not just with Yasusada, but in general.

[ he and lili have trusted and supported him, and that's... a precious thing. ]
